All of you is welcome here

Hello, my name is Kae Moon. Thank you for visiting. I am a warm and approachable therapist, and I work with adults and young people (aged 16+) who experience emotional issues and trauma. I am based in Chester, UK, and available for in-person and online sessions.

Two chairs and a table in an art therapy room. There are shelves with art materials, plants and books.

I work from a trauma-informed and attachment-based perspective, where we can explore your lived experiences, how they are affecting you now, and what changes can be made in your environment to support you. You may find that your coping mechanisms no longer work for you, or you may be seeking support to find a new way of being in the world. It is a brave step to begin or continue your therapeutic journey, and I will be guided by your pace and adapt the sessions to suit your particular needs.

I provide therapeutic art-making as a form of expression and communication to support you in exploring your inner world and navigating any changes you wish to make in your outer world. We work to integrate traumatic experiences and help you to move on and thrive. Art therapy has been shown to reduce cortisol and other stress hormones, and can be useful when working with acute or chronic issues.

Previous clients have shared that they enjoy the peacefulness and clarity that comes from the art-making process, and that they feel supported and able to be themselves in my art studio.

I do not practice the pathologisation of trauma. I seek to provide supportive ways to help people gain empowerment in their health, well-being, and coping skills. I believe collective change is key to well-being: we do not heal in a vacuum, and systemic change can be sought by challenging all forms of oppression.

Cultural curiosity and cultural humility are important to me and my practice. I acknowledge the privilege that being white affords me, and I seek to redress the balance through educating myself, listening, being an ally, and not imposing my ideas on others but co-creating the therapeutic space. I endeavour to challenge and not perpetuate colonialism and white supremacy in the therapy room.

Through my practice, I seek to support people in increasing their emotional health and well-being after they have been subjected to traumatic experiences to regain a sense of empowerment, agency, and to feel comfortable in their body. I have helped people with various forms of stress, complex trauma, developmental trauma, the effects of oppression, and lived experiences, including childhood abuse, neglect, and discrimination.

In sessions, we seek to safely process these experiences so people are able to move away from coping mechanisms (such as, avoidance, eating distress, OCD, and self-harm) and find healthier ways to be in the world and find ways to reconnect with themselves, their communities and the world around them.

We do this through somatic work to support the nervous system (breathing, tapping and movement), creative practices (drawing, talking, writing), and specific modalities such as guided drawing and emotional freedom technique to support the body-mind to feel safe again.

Healing Moon is a queer-run, neurodiverse-supportive, and trans-inclusive space.

I am an allied health professional regulated by the HCPC as an Art Psychotherapist (MA) with post-qualifying training in Sensorimotor Art Therapy with the Institute for Sensorimotor Art Therapy, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT tapping), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, and Developmental Trauma Training. I am a full member of the British Association of Art Therapists (BAAT) and accredited by The EFT and Mindfulness Centre.

If you feel we will be a good fit for working together, please book an introductory call with a view to co-creating a therapy journey. More information about the modalities we can use in sessions can be found in the website menu, and please let me know if you have any questions.

You can get in touch here to book your consultation, and we can discuss working together.
